Test Method: SATRA TM361
Bloom formation of polymeric materials (accelerated ageing test)
January 2010
SCOPE
This method is intended to qualitatively determine the susceptibility of polymeric materials to form blooms or other surface discolouration during storage, transportation or in service. It is applicable to all rubber and plastic materials used in footwear (for example uppers and solings) and other products.
PRINCIPLE
Test specimens are subjected to a hot environment and then a cold environment. A sequence of cycling with dry, hot air is followed by a sequence of cycling of moist, hot air. These conditions are cycled over many days. The level of bloom or other discolouration is qualitatively determined by visual inspection at various stages throughout the test.
