Test Method: SATRA TM376
Advanced moisture management test
February 2009
SCOPE
This method assesses the sweat management performance of complete footwear by measuring the moisture absorption and breathability properties of footwear tested in conjunction with hose.
The method is applicable to all types of closed-uppered footwear and may also be applied to testing the sweat management properties of hose.
PRINCIPLE
Hose and footwear are placed on an artificial foot which is maintained at a steady temperature and through which water is pumped at a controlled rate to exude from its surface to mimic sweating. The moisture uptake by each separate component (footwear, insock, hose) is determined after a fixed time and the mass of moisture evaporated to the surrounding environment calculated. The electrical energy consumption required to maintain the steady foot temperature may also be determined as an indication of the footwear’s thermal insulation performance.
