Extraction of threads

SCOPE
This method is intended to determine the levels of lubricant and bonding agent present in a thread. The method is mainly applicable to nylon and polyester threads.
PRINCIPLE
A sample of thread is wound from a reel then extracted with hot solvent using the Soxhlet method to determine the lubricant level. The extraction procedure is then repeated with a second, more aggressive, hot solvent to determine the level of bonding agent.
