Test Method: SATRA TM425
Peel strength of laminated fabrics
August 2021
SCOPE
This method is intended to determine the peel strength of bonds between layers of laminated fabrics. The method is particularly applicable to the assessment of laminated garment fabrics and fusible interlinings but can also be used for home-furnishing materials and toys which incorporate laminated fabric structures.
PRINCIPLE
Test specimens of laminated material are cut from the material or item to be tested and the layers of the laminate structure are separated for a specified distance. The test specimen is peeled using a tensile testing machine and the force required to separate the two layers is measured. If a laminated material consists of more than two bonded layers, the peel strength between more than one of the pairs of layers can be assessed separately.
