Test Method: SATRA TM441
Resistance to penetration by needles and other sharp points
February 2011
SCOPE
This method is intended to determine the resistance of footwear, glove and other apparel materials to penetration by needles and similarly sharp points such as snake fangs. This method is mainly applicable to footwear upper and gloving materials, although it is suitable for any flexible sheet material.
PRINCIPLE
The material under test is clamped circumferentially in a jig which is inserted into a tension/compression testing machine. The force required to push a hypodermic needle through the material is recorded.
