Test Method: SATRA TM360
Method for the determination of the odour absorbing properties of insole materials
April 2019
SCOPE
This test method is intended to determine the ability of a material to absorb and retain odour. The method is applicable to all types of material used in footwear which are intended to act as odour absorbers, such as insole materials or powder additives.
PRINCIPLE
A test specimen is stored in a saturated atmosphere of butyric acid and the amount of odour absorbed and subsequently desorbed is determined by recording the change in mass of the specimen. This is then expressed as a percentage of the initial mass. The result obtained is compared against the measured absorption of a standard carbon reference material which is used as a means of indicating the effectiveness of the test specimen.
NOTE: Because of the health hazards associated with butyric acid, this procedure shall be undertaken only by suitably trained personnel and using appropriate local exhaust ventilation.
