Test Method: SATRA TM43
Tensile strength and extension at break of leather
December 2021
SCOPE
This test method is intended to determine the tensile properties of leather.
The method is mainly applicable to footwear upper and lining leathers but
could also be used for sole leathers and leathers for other products.
PRINCIPLE
A dumb-bell shaped test specimen is gradually stretched by a tensile testing
machine until it fails. The tensile strength and extension at break of the specimen
are determined. If required, the extension at a predefined tensile stress may also be
determined, see clause 8.1. The tensile stress and extension at grain crack can
also be determined.
