Test Method: SATRA TM70
Heat shrinkage of cellular solings
July 2001
SCOPE
This test method is intended to determine the degree of shrinkage of cellular soling materials when they are subjected to heat, in shoemaking or service. In addition, the test is an accelerated means of estimating the degree of shrinkage which may occur over a long period of time at normal temperatures. The method is applicable to all cellular and microcellular solings, including higher density semi-expanded materials or suitable material cut from finished soles.
PRINCIPLE
The soling material is reduced to a standard thickness and rectangular test specimens cut. Pairs of marks are made on each principal surface of the test specimens. The distance between the marks is measured before and after heating the test specimens under specified conditions, and the percentage shrinkage calculated.
