Test Method: SATRA TM76
Water absorption of cellular solings by the vacuum method
July 2001
SCOPE
This test method is intended to determine the amount of water a microcellular soling material will absorb when it is immersed in water and the air partially evacuated from it. The method is applicable to all microcellular soling materials, particularly polyurethane.
PRINCIPLE
A test specimen is immersed in water and a partial vacuum is applied for a defined period. The vacuum is then released and after a further defined period the volume of water absorbed by the test specimen is determined by measuring its increase in mass. The per cent water absorption is calculated and if required, an approximate value for the percentage of the volume represented by interconnecting cells.
