Test Method: SATRA TM88
Measurement of the torsional stiffness of insole backparts
November 2022
SCOPE
This method is intended to determine the torsional stiffness of insole backparts in a way which corresponds to the twisting motion of the shoe that may occur in wear.
The method is applicable to all insole backparts, including polymer backparts, with or without a shank, and fibre board backparts reinforced with a shank.
PRINCIPLE
The insole backpart is clamped at its rear end in a moulded resin block, and a twisting moment is applied by hanging weights on the end of a transverse bar clamped to its front end. The angular rotation of the front end is measured and the torsional stiffness calculated.
