Test Method: SATRA TM118

Strength of sandal toe posts

November 2022

SCOPE

This method is intended to determine the strength of a toe post and its attachment to the shoe bottom and straps. The method is applicable to all types of sandals with a toe post.

PRINCIPLE

A thin, rigid, square template with a hole close to each corner, and a keyhole shaped slot to accommodate the toe post, is placed around the toe post on the footbed of the test sandal. Four holes, which match holes in the template, are drilled through the shoe bottom. Two loops of thick wire are threaded through the holes in the template and the shoe bottom. The assembly is then fitted between the jaws of a tensile testing machine and the force required to pull the post from the shoe bottom or cause some other type of failure is measured.
