Tata to open Chennai factory
Tata Industrial aims to boost its footwear production.
Tata International Limited is to expand its footwear production capacity by establishing a new factory near the Indian city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company expects this facility to be fully operational by 2016 and then produce up to two million pairs of shoes annually.
Tata International presently has three footwear production facilities in and around Chennai, in addition to factories in Ambur, Dewas, Ranipet, Wallajah and Portugal. The company has reportedly drawn up a three-year strategy to produce ten million pairs of footwear by 2017. Tata International is looking to produce 6.5 million pairs this year, followed by 7.8 million pairs in 2016.
