The ongoing programme of live webinars presented by SATRA experts on a variety of key topics is proving very popular with members around the world. Hundreds of online attendees have taken advantage of this provision, all of whom have the opportunity to pose questions during the presentations and either hear a live response at the conclusion of the session or receive personalised emailed advice – a particularly valuable service whenever confidential information about the member’s products is being discussed.
The following webinars are reserved for SATRA members. These sessions will be presented at 10:00 BST and repeated at 16:00 BST for members who are located in North and South America.
Thursday 11th August 2022 – ‘Phthalate plasticisers: the importance of testing for restricted phthalates’. This webinar will provide an insight into the regulations surrounding the presence of phthalate plasticisers in footwear and consumer products – legislation which can be complex and difficult to understand. Phthalate plasticisers are frequently added to plastics to increase their flexibility. However, some phthalates are described as ‘endocrine disruptors’ and are restricted by legislation. SATRA can test for the presence of these restricted substances which should be part of routine substances testing, and this webinar will also explain more about the phthalate testing services we provide.
Thursday 1st September 2022 – ‘Innovative materials as an alternative to leather?’ We are currently seeing in the market a growing number of plant-based materials touted as alternatives to leather. The sustainability claims of these new materials are increasing every day, but could they equal leather in most relevant functional performance parameters? This webinar will explain more about the suitability of these materials for shoemaking.
In addition to the regular live events, SATRA has built an online library of recordings of the webinars as well as supplementary video presentations on a number of key footwear-related issues, access to which is reserved for member companies. This online provision ensures that all members who were unable to watch the live online events can still benefit from the experience of SATRA’s experts and other industry figures by logging onto the dedicated website section whenever they choose.
