SATRA’s programme of regular webinars presented on a variety of key industry topics is proving very popular with members around the world. Hundreds of online attendees have taken advantage of this provision, all of whom have the opportunity to pose questions before the event, during the presentation or afterwards. Answers can then be provided either as a live response at the conclusion of the session (when it is presented live) or as personalised emailed advice, which is a particularly valuable service whenever confidential information about the member’s products needs to be discussed.
The following SATRA webinars will be presented at 10:00 GMT and repeated at 16:00 GMT to accommodate delegates who are located in North or South America.
Thursday 23rd November 2023 – ‘Top-piece slip resistance’. Slipping of the heel part of the sole is arguably the most dangerous type of slip, because of the subject’s weight being transferred to the slipping foot. This makes the slip less recoverable, and increases the likelihood of wearers landing on their backs and risking more severe trauma.
SATRA TM144 (and similar slip test methods) is mainly a whole shoe test. However, in this member-only webinar, we will review how it is adapted to test heel top-pieces as components or, in some cases, as removed from whole shoes. As such top-pieces (usually rubber or TPU) must balance grip with durability and attachment security, we will also explain the interplay between these characteristics.
Thursday 30th November 2023 – ‘Solvent vapour monitoring’. The use of solvent vapour badges helps to control employees’ exposure to potentially hazardous products in the workplace. In the UK, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 requires employers to adequately control exposure to materials in the workplace which cause ill health. Some products used during manufacturing such as adhesives, primers, cleaners and finishing agents may contain organic solvents that can cause serious short-term and long-term health effects. This webinar – open to both SATRA members and non-members – will discuss solvent vapour monitoring and the health and safety concerns of solvent exposure.
Thursday 7th December 2023 – ‘Footwear specifications’. When manufacturing footwear or sourcing from a third party, a detailed ‘product specification’ is most important for each style. In many instances, this forms part of the contract with the factory, and details of such characteristics as the style, colour, materials, components and suppliers should all be included in the specification. This ensures that the factory will produce a product with the required aesthetics and performance requirements, minimising any supply chain disputes or problems in wear.
Reserved for SATRA members, this event will consider the importance of these specifications, what they should cover and what can go wrong if they are not used correctly.
