Jimmy Choo expands China operation
High-end shoemaker Jimmy Choo has taken over direct control of its mainland China stores from Kutu, the distribution partner that has been representing the brand in the country for the past three years.
Jimmy Choo (Shanghai) Trading Co Ltd has now assumed direct responsibility for retail operations. Jimmy Choo entered the market in 2007, and the brand’s retail footprint has grown to include stores in Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai. An additional four stores are to open within the next few months, with plans to open up to 30 stores in the coming years. In addition, Jimmy Choo’s wholesale operations in mainland China include a presence in both Lane Crawford and Joyce stores for the men’s shoes market.
According to Pierre Denis, chairman and chief executive of Jimmy Choo Asia, China is a vital market for Jimmy Choo, and having control in the market will allow the company to further develop the brand.
Jimmy Choo (Shanghai) Trading Co Ltd will be managed by Hong Kong-based Wannie Suen, president of Jimmy Choo Asia. There are currently 36 stores in the Asia region, including those in China and Hong Kong.
