Footwear Webinars
Smart textiles
Smart technology is an exciting innovation within the textiles industry, allowing the production of materials which can respond and adapt to their environment in a variety of different ways. This has the potential to revolutionise the way that textiles are used in fashion, sportswear, protective clothing and medical devices.
In this webinar, Lucy Cove explores the potential applications of this emerging technology, as well as the regulatory challenges that it may pose.
Introducing SATRA TimeLine software
TimeLine is part of SATRA's suite of production efficiency systems, which can assist footwear manufacturers with accurately predicting time and labour costs before production starts.
In this webinar, SATRA's footwear production efficiency experts explain how TimeLine enables manufacturers to calculate the optimum time required to carry out virtually any shoemaking operation. TimeLine provides valuable data to support price negotiations, precise production times, better use of resources and increased profits.
Introduction to product carbon footprint and lifecycle assessment
SATRA's sustainability manager, Nicola Pichel-Juan, explains why it is important for organisations to understand the environmental impacts of their products. She introduces lifecycle assessment (LCA) methodology and explains the type of data that would be needed in order to calculate the impacts of a given product.
Key challenges typically encountered in the process are discussed as well as commonly used methodologies.
Examining the use of Generative AI to enhance footwear's creative processes.
This webinar will introduce the concept of generative artificial intelligence, using stable diffusion to demonstrate the concept of building a model to help revolutionise the footwear design process. It will be presented by Mark Harrop CEO of Which PLM and a technology advisor to the fashion and footwear industry, Goor Moshe an AI engine expert, along with Jo Harling, a designer from Goldline UK Ltd.
Torque and rotation in footwear: Schawbel member showcase
Sam Huzzard, technical lead of SATRA's innovation team, commences this webinar with an introduction to the concept of rotational slip. He explains how SATRA measures torque through the footwear that occurs when we change direction. Consideration is given to the way the body works with standard footwear when trying to deal with the forces involved.
SATRA member, Schawbel Technologies, is collaborating with inventor Philip Muirhead who joins us to detail his invention. This is a mechanism built into footwear that demonstrates the ability to offload torsional forces.
Exploring SATRA's research facilities and expertise
Research and innovation at SATRA has been a priority since the organisation was founded in 1919 and has continuously played a key part in the technical progression of footwear related industries. Throughout SATRA has remained at the cutting edge of research with investment into exciting projects and technologies to the benefit of our members.
Innovation technologist Ben McMorran gives an insight into the department's current developments and explains how SATRA members can utilise the expertise and facilities available to their advantage.
Common failures in safety footwear
In order to effectively and consistently give the necessary level of protection, safety footwear must be carefully designed and manufactured. Making a thorough consideration of both the design and materials to be used during the product’s development stage can save time and money when it comes to testing and certification. Darren Roberts and Hannah Coe from SATRA's footwear team discuss the common causes for failure.
Footwear protecting against chemicals
In this webinar, Lorna Harding from SATRA’s chemistry team and Hannah Coe from the footwear team discuss the requirements and test methods outlined in EN 13832:2018 Parts 1, 2 and 3. This standard is relevant to all footwear that comes into contact with chemicals and defines the requirements for short-term and long-term exposure to chemicals.
Test methods including splashing resistance, chemical permeation and degradation, elongation at break and tear resistance are also discussed.
EN ISO Personal Protective Equipment – Safety Footwear Updates
This webinar will explain amendments to the standards for safety, protective and occupational footwear, which have recently been updated. The 2021 versions introduce some new and additional test methods and requirements. This webinar is intended to explain these changes to the standards, and outline what changes will be required to ensure continued compliance.
