EN ISO Personal Protective Equipment – Safety Footwear Updates

This webinar will explain amendments to the standards for safety, protective and occupational footwear, which have recently been updated. The 2021 versions introduce some new and additional test methods and requirements. This webinar is intended to explain these changes to the standards, and outline what changes will be required to ensure continued compliance.

Update on Testing Safety Footwear Toecaps and Midsoles

EN 12568 has recently been replaced with EN ISO 22568: 2019 parts 1 to 4. Foot and Leg Protectors. Requirements and test methods for footwear components. Darren Roberts, SATRA’s Footwear Testing Manager, outlines the main changes, particularly with respect to measuring perforation resistance of non-metallic insert materials.

Testing and Certification of Motorcycle Footwear

Simon Courtney and Daniel Cotter discuss the testing and certification requirements for motorcycle footwear, including tests on the integrity of the whole boot, including measurement of the bond strength between the upper and outsole and testing to assess the transverse rigidity of the boot.

Acoustic Testing of PPE Products

Simon Courtney runs through the types of hearing protection PPE products SATRA tests, the legislation required, testing and assessments and the EN 352 series of standards. In addition, he covers ANSI / ASA standards for products going to the USA. There are a number of interesting developments in acoustic testing such as the scanning of subjects’ ear canals for moulded products which are also discussed. Simon also mentions how the new UKCA mark will affect the certification of hearing protection products.

Visor Testing and Certification

Eye and face protectors placed on the European market are personal protective equipment and have to satisfy the health and safety requirements of the PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (PPER). A reduced testing programme was agreed for products that have a limited usage and for supply directly to the NHS for immediate emergency usage. During this webinar Simon Courtney discusses the testing and certification of these types of products.

Introduction to the PPE Regulation

During this webinar SATRA’s certification expert Hannah Coe gives an overview of the Regulation including brief explanations about preparing documentation including risk assessments, the EU Declaration of Conformity and the Annex II Basic Health and Safety Requirements. She also discusses certificate expiry after 5 years and gives some examples of good practice.
