Sustainability Workshop on Generating Energy from Waste Materials
In this workshop guest presenter, Dr Warren Bowden, Innovation and Sustainability Director of The Scottish Leather Group Ltd (SLG), will highlight their journey towards achieving a sustainable manufacturing cycle. He will explain how SLG reduced their environmental impact and carbon footprint by avoiding landfill while producing syngas and oil. Dr Bowden will also discuss SLG’s reduced water footprint and their positive impact on local communities and the workplace.
Sustainability Workshop on the Sustainable Leather Foundation
The Sustainable Leather Foundation (SLF) is an organisation that was formed in early 2020 with the mission of supporting the global leather industry to learn, to improve and to protect for future generations, through the ‘People, Planet, Profit’ principle. Sustainability Workshop on Biodegradability Testing of Leather
When organisations are considering the end-of-life impact of different materials in a product the question "How biodegradable is it?" is often asked. Karl Flowers, Co-founder and Director of Authenticae and SATRA's Technical Adviser, Tom Bayes, will discuss some of the tests available. They will also look at plant response testing to consider whether leather compost can be safely applied to agricultural land.

Sustainability Workshop on Durability and Longevity of Footwear
Tom Bayes, SATRA’s Head of Innovation, discusses the use of accelerated ageing tests to assess the durability of footwear and help to predict its longevity in use. We also hear from Stefan Mathys, co-founder of the innovative SATRA member VYN, who produce sneakers designed to be worn, cared for and repaired by the owner.
Sustainability Workshop on Packaging
The Keynote Presentation - Clear Consumer Communications - was given by Professor Margaret Bates from OPRL Ltd the not-for-profit company which runs the award-winning On-Pack Recycling Label scheme, recognised by the UN Environment Programme as international best practice.
The webinar includes a presentation from SATRA on the topic Minimum Performance for Packaging and Assessment and this was followed by a presentation from Sharon Reason from L&E International, highlighting recent developments in designing and producing sustainable packaging for the footwear industry.
